What Will Happen to Me?

This is an example of how the refuge process can work.

  1. Call Refuge and Wafe for advice - decide I would like to go to a refuge.

  2. The refuge calls me and asks me questions. They give me the address and I go to the refuge.

  3. I arrive and settle in. The next day I go to the DSS with the refuge worker and apply for income support and a crisis loan so that I have some money.

  4. After a month I decide where I want to be re-housed. The refuge worker accompanies me to an interview with a housing officer.

  5. I am referred for counselling.

  6. After a few months I get a letter from my chosen borough saying that they have accepted me. I relinquish the tenancy on my old property.

  7. I start a course at College.

  8. After 6 months I am made an offer on a property. The Resettlement worker comes to view it with me.

  9. I accept the property and move in a week later. The refuge continues to provide outreach support to me for another 6 months.

This is a very simplified example of how we help you with re-housing; remember that sometimes it can be a long and complicated process.
